CONNOISSEUR INSTITUTE

Maria Pineda Da Silva started her career in the construction industry working as an Assistant to Project Managers at Corporate Interiors Contracting, Assistant Controller at Builder’s Group and Executive Assistant at Cesar Pelli Architects, and Safety Manager at Phoenix Construction in New York City. She went on to work as Assistant Construction Project Manager for RPM Development in Montclair,
New Jersey in 2005. In 2006, she started a multi service, CONNOISSEUR CONSULTANTS helping the immigrant community in Ironbound section of Newark, NJ, mainly construction workers with tax and administrative issues.
It was after listening to issues related to safety, fair pay and other problems from these workers that she decided not only to give them a fish but to teach them how to fish. In 2006 she founded CONNOISSEUR INSTITUTE with the objective of offering construction safety training and other courses that will open opportunities. Today, Connoisseur Institute has a location in Brooklyn, NY and offices in North Carolina. She is an Authorized OSHA Outreach instructor and has training in Scaffold safety. She is also the co owner of PFHA Contracting. She teaches blueprint reading, Estimating, Construction Management. She is also a safety consultant for accident investigations. She is currently flipping houses. Her future projects includes a television reality show.

About OSHA

With the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, Congress created the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to ensure safe and healthful working conditions for workers by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance.

OSHA is part of the United States Department of Labor. The administrator for OSHA is the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health. OSHA’s administrator answers to the Secretary of Labor, who is a member of the cabinet of the President of the United States.

The OSH Act covers most private sector employers and their workers, in addition to some public sector employers and workers in the 50 states and certain territories and jurisdictions under federal authority. Those jurisdictions include the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Wake Island, Johnston Island, and the Outer Continental Shelf Lands as defined in the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act.
