Site Safety includes following traffic control regulations approved by a recognized organization such as ATSSA (American Traffic Safety Services Association) that uses the MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices). Construction sites need Flaggers to control traffic, direct material deliveries and keep pedestrians and workers safe. This course will teach you the following:
- Directing Traffic: Use stop/slow paddles, hand signals, or illuminated wands to guide vehicles and pedestrians safely through or around work areas.
- Controlling Lanes: Coordinate with a partner via two-way radio to manage single-lane alternating traffic and prevent head-on collisions.
- Setting Up Equipment: Place, maintain, and remove traffic cones, warning signs, barricades, and detour markers according to MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) standards.
- Monitoring Compliance: Observe traffic behavior, log license plate numbers of rule-violating or reckless motorists, and report hazards.
